Brachioplasty is the medical term for an upper arm lift plastic surgery procedure. During brachioplasty plastic surgery excess fat and skin is removed from the upper arm area in order to create a firmer more youthful looking arm contour. A brachioplasty can enhance the appearance of arms that, with age or weight loss, have lost their natural firmness and shape.
Reasons to undergo brachioplasty include:
To enhance your appearance and self confidence.
To remove excess fat and tissue that has not responded well to diet and exercise.
To contour the arms.
To assist bariatric patients in removing excess tissue after weight loss.
Surgical candidates:
Good physical and mental health
Maintain realistic goals for surgical results.
Reached weight loss goal
Must have support from family or partner.
Procedure:
Performed under anesthesia with hospital or surgery center.
Brachioplasty patients may spend one night within the hospital if desired.
Actual surgical procedure depends on the amount of tissue needing to be removed.
After Surgery:
Oral pain medications are prescribed to control discomfort following surgery.
The following medications are also prescribed to assist in your recovery:
antibiotics, ibuprofen and stool softener.
The doctor or her assistant will visit with the patient one to two days after surgery.
It is imperative to avoid any strenuous activity for 4 weeks, but patients may resume non-strenuous work with 2-3 weeks.
